Tango dance is one of the most famous partner dances that emphasizes the vibrant and playful style of movement, rich expressions, improvisation and requires close connection and passion between dancers.
Class Description
Expert Argentine Tango Instruction
The Beginner through advanced levels group classes, and private lessons focus on authentic Argentine Tango as danced and performed in the halls of Buenos Aires.
This class emphasizes the "non-verbal communication" and "partner connection" aspect of tango to enable the students to dance with others at local tango events and throughout the world including Buenos Aires. Where the essence of tango "when the two partners become one" is never forgotten.
SUGGESTED CLASS ATTIRE
CLOTHING
Comfortable cool clothing in which you can easily move around in.
DANCE CLASS FOOTWEAR
Most people bring their dance shoes in a dance bag, and change into them at the studio upon arrival. We suggest you bring trouser (thin) socks to protect your feet from getting scraped. Thick sport socks are not recommended.
Ladies Footwear
It is best to use a dressy shoe in this class. Choose a heel-height that is comfortable for you to start in. Platform shoes are Not recommended.
Mens Footwear
Sneakers or work boots are NOT suited for this dance. Guys should wear any comfortable Dressy shoes to move and pivot easily in during class.

GEM DURAS
Tango Dance Instructor
Gem has been dancing tango for 26 years and teaching professionally since 2003. In 1990's he studied with the original cast members of the famous show Forever Tango, in particular the legendary Carlos Gavito. He then visited Buenos Aires numerous times to study advanced technique, ballet and stage tango with younger Forever Tango stars Francisco Forquera and Jesus Velazquez, receiving his tango certificate.
Over many years he became familiar with the styles of such important and diverse dancers as Mariano "Chicho" Frumboli, Gustavo Naveira, Susana Miller, Javier Rodriguez, Osvaldo Zotto, Norberto "Pulpo" Esbrez, Carlos Rivarola, Juan Carlos Copes, Dana Frigoli and Milena Plebs. As a result he is able to teach and guide the students in various tango styles such as Salon, Milonguero, Nuevo and beyond.
Although Tango Sueño Academy offers choreography and performance classes for more advanced students, the essence of tango "where the two partners become one" is never forgotten, with the goal of enabling the students to dance with others at local tango events and throughout the world including Buenos Aires.
Gem follows the current trends in tango by visiting Buenos Aires multiple times each year and inviting Argentine guests to the Connecticut Tango Festival, which he organizes annually with Tango Sueño co-founder Dale Ellison.
